From 20 to 29 September 2025, Jabatan Landskap Negara (the National Landscape Department of Malaysia) ran a landscape mission at World Expo 2025 Osaka in Japan, within the Malaysia Pavilion, which officially closed on 13 October 2025. The official delegation was led by the Director General of Jabatan Landskap Negara, with agencies including PLANMalaysia. Creative Creed Associates Sdn. Bhd., a creative agency for events and exhibitions, designed and delivered the department's exhibition.
The challenge
A world expo is one of the most crowded stages there is. Visitors move through pavilion after pavilion, and static displays of landscapes, however beautiful, are easy to pass by. The brief was to present Malaysia's approach to landscape to an international audience, and to show the country as one that values sustainability, nature and innovation.
The theme: When Landscape Breathes, Cities Bloom
The exhibition ran under the theme “When Landscape Breathes, Cities Bloom” (Apabila Landskap Bernafas, Bandar Akan Mekar), focused on sustainable, resilient urban landscape. The idea is that green space is part of how a city works, not decoration added afterwards.
What Creative Creed delivered
Creative Creed designed and executed the exhibition as a living narrative, with a mix of formats so visitors could take part rather than just look:
- virtual exhibition: including AR and VR experiences that took visitors into Bukit Kiara Federal Hills in Kuala Lumpur;
- a giant flip book telling the landscape story page by page;
- interactive games for visitors of all ages;
- seminars and industry “pocket talk” sessions, where local authorities such as Majlis Bandaraya Iskandar Puteri shared their green-city work.
The design, build and immersive content were delivered by Creative Creed with specialist partners. Delivering an exhibition overseas also adds work a domestic event does not, from planning the build remotely to meeting an international venue's requirements.
Why it matters
The mission shows how immersive technology and live sessions can carry a message about nature without replacing it: the AR and VR work brought visitors closer to a real place in Kuala Lumpur, while the talks put Malaysian practitioners in front of an international audience. It also reflects Creative Creed's work with landscape and environment themes at home, including Hari Landskap Negara 2024.
