The Klang Sustainable Convention 2024 (ESG for SDG) was a forum on environmental, social and governance (ESG) practice and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), organised by Majlis Bandaraya Diraja Klang (MBDK). It ran from 9 to 12 October 2024 at Dewan Majlis Bandaraya Diraja Klang, Bandar Bukit Raja, Klang. Creative Creed Associates Sdn. Bhd., a creative agency for events and exhibitions, delivered the convention as event organiser.
The brief
Sustainability conventions face a familiar risk: high-level policy talk that never connects to what people and organisations can actually do. The challenge for Klang was to link ESG adoption to the SDGs in practical terms, giving a local authority's sustainability agenda a platform that felt grounded rather than abstract.
Who took part
The Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation officiated the convention on 10 October 2024, and the Selangor Menteri Besar delivered the keynote. Participants and exhibitors included:
- local authorities and property developers;
- private healthcare providers and SMEs;
- NGOs and schools;
- Port Klang Authority, Westports and Port Klang Free Zone.
What Creative Creed delivered
Creative Creed managed the convention from planning through to delivery. The programme covered ESG adoption discussions, logistics and digitalisation showcases including Port Klang virtual tours, and community sustainability exhibits. Audio-visual, staging and technical elements were delivered by our event technical team with specialist partners.
What it led to
Lessons from structuring the Klang programme informed Creative Creed's approach to the Johor Smart City Forum 2025 for PLANMalaysia@Johor, a forum of similar scale and ambition held at Persada Johor International Convention Centre. Together, the two events reflect a growing body of work in public policy forums and government conventions.
